WOMEN’S SOCCER COLLECTS TWO SHUTOUTS
The Las Positas women’s soccer team notched two impressive shutout wins last week, beating De Anza 8-0 and Cabrillo 3-0.
The Hawks’ Darlin Hayworth stole the show against De Anza with four goals, including a rare natural hat trick from the 42nd minute to the 79th minute. Also scoring were Paola Samaniego, Meghan Giamona, Jocelyn Hernandez and Tyanne Woodyard Smit.
Eryn Wheatley had a team-best two assists against De Anza, and five others had each one assist: Giamona, Lauren Sisneros, Gabriella Polizzi, Paola Barron, and Shayla Dominguez. Goalkeepers Anjelica Gonzalez and Marisol Camargo both had two saves, each working one half.
Against Cabrillo, Giamona, Daniela Walker and Polizzi did the scoring damage. Hayworth, Raena Juarez and Alexis Xaysana all had assists. Gonzalez and Camargo each worked a scoreless half in goal.
With two games remaining in the regular season, the Hawks (13-2-3, 7-1-2 Coast-North) will travel to face tough Coast-South foe Hartnell on Tuesday and then will host Skyline at 1:30 p.m. Friday – on Sophomore Day -- to complete Coast-North action.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
The Hawks (10-9, 7-3) got five goals from mighty Mikayla Theide in a 13-9 win over Foothill in the third-place game of the Coast Conference Championships on Nov. 2. Theide also contributed two steals and one assist.
Two Hawks had three goals apiece: Negin Tehranian Torghabeh and Natali Dallos. Hawks goalie Negar Tehranian Torghabeh had seven saves.
The Hawks dropped a heartbreaker against Merced 11-9 in its opener in the championships. Merced opened an 11-1 lead before the Hawks surged back and nearly forced overtime.
Theide led the Hawks with five goals in the loss. Negin Tehranian Torghabeh had five steals. Alexandra Sistena Kerin and Dalos each had two goals.
With two games remaining before the playoffs, the Hawks (10-7-2, 7-4 Coast-North) will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they host CCSF at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Hawks will also host Chabot at 4 p.m. on Nov. 9.
Las Positas is coming off a 2-1 defeat at West Valley on Nov. 2. The Hawks’ Ali Amin scored in the 60th minute to put the Hawks on the board, trailing 2-1. Arnie Maravillas had the assist.
The Hawks also fell 1-0 at De Anza on Oct. 30.
MEN’S WATER POLO
Las Positas stalwart Cameron Naas amassed nine goals and Marco Macchiavello had six goals in an 18-12 win over Cabrillo in the Hawks’ final game of the Coast Conference tourney Nov. 3.
Lawrence Li chipped in with three goals for the Hawks.
The Hawks, in their debut season, took a thrilling 3-2 win over Canada-Redwood City in the Coast-South on Nov. 2.
The Hawks will host San Jose on Wednesday, Nov. 7, on Sophomore Night, before finishing conference play at Gavilan on Nov. 9 and at Foothill on Nov. 13.
