Joseph Puleo joined the Las Positas College Men's Basketball staff as an assistant coach in June of 2016.
Prior to joining the Las Positas College staff, Puleo worked at Sunrise Christian Academy for 3 years in Wichita, Kansas. He served as assistant coach for 2 years and 1 year as head coach.
During his tenure with the Buffaloes, Puleo worked from 2013-2016 with over 30 student-athletes who went on to receive a division I scholarship from Sunrise.
"Not only was I lucky to work with such talented young men but student-athletes who possess high character and a coaching staff full of hard working and passionate individuals striving to give back and be the best," Puleo added.
In the three years at Sunrise the program was ranked in the top 25 nationally and cracked the Top 10. Through hard work and an old school approach Sunrise was able to become a prominent high school basketball program with Nike Elite sponsorship and televised nationally by ESPN.
Before his time at Sunrise, Puleo was an assistant coach at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California from 2010-2012. At Southwestern, he was able to train and mentor 1 all-state, 3 first team all-conference and 1 second team all-conference student-athletes during his tenure. In his first season, the jaguars went 25-3 and received a #2 seed in the playoffs.
During the summers he worked college camps all over the west coast, including Stanford, Cal, UCLA Arizona St. and Gonzaga among numerous others. Through his time on the west coast and mid-west at Sunrise and coaching for one of the most respected AAU programs in the nation, MOKAN, he was able to build a strong network of coaching contacts.
Puleo completed his undergrad at California State University, Chico in 2010 with two degrees in coaching and administration and physical education teacher education. He was also, a student assistant coach for the women's basketball program from 2007-2010. He later went on to attain his Master's of Science Degree in Kinesiology from Azusa Pacific University in 2013.
He got married in the summer of 2015 to his college sweetheart, Heeok.
