The 2016 season was Cumbo's first at Las Positas College. The team ranked as high as 15th in the Nation, according to the NSCAA October 4th poll. A strong recruiting class helped pave the way for a record breaking and successful season. The team advanced to the post season playoffs, had a winning overall record (11-7-5), a winning league record (5-4-4) and had an outstanding home record (6-1-2). Six of the starting eleven players for LPC were selected as Coast League All Conference Players, and all members of Cumbo's first recruiting class. Team captain Marco Neves led the way for the team and received 7 individual awards for his performance on the field. He was recognized as an NSCAA All American, NSCAA All Region Player, a CCCAA All State Player, a CCCAA North All Region Player, Coast North All Conference First Team, the Coast Conference North Offensive Player of the Year, and the CCCAA Honorable Mention State Athlete of the Month for September. He finished ranked #2 in the State with 25 total goals, and led the conference in goals and total points. In addition to Neves, Captains Fernando Herrera, and Mike Hatch were also selected to the All-Conference First Team, along with Freshman goalkeeper Jose Elizondo. Freshmen Matt Hafizi and Nick Tucker were selected as All Conference Second Team members. Neves was LPC first men's soccer NSCAA All American since 1999. The team ended the season in the playoffs with a 2-3 loss away to Taft College. Taft went on to advance to the Final Four, losing in a shootout. The three 2016 captains have all received scholarships to attend either NCAA Div I or Div II institutions, and other players are currently finalizing their four year plans as well. Six LPC players from this year's team will transfer out and compete at the NCAA level.
