HAWKS PUT EXCLAMATION POINT ON BANNER SEASON IN STATE SWIMMING

Buoyed by excellence in diving and outstanding depth, the Las Positas men’s and women’s swimming teams completed historic seasons with top-five finishes at the CCCAA State Championship Saturday at East Los Angeles College.The teams achieved record finishes under coach Jason Craighead. The Hawks men took fourth with 276 points, and the women were fifth with 268, both tops among Bay Area and ...Coast Conference programs.Last year, the Hawks men and women both cracked the top 10, with the women in seventh (232.50) and the men in eighth (243).This time around, Sierra won the women’s team title with 470 points, and Golden West took the men’s state crown with 573.In Saturday’s women’s 1,650 freestyle final, Las Positas freshman Amaya Batiza finished third in 17:56.02 and sophomore Paris Sinclair was fourth in 18.03.37. Emil Graversen was third in the men’s 200 backstroke (1:53.06).The Las Positas men were fourth in the 400-freestyle relay in a time of 3:08.95, with a team of Matt Lee, Graversen, Michael Eckles and Ryan Eckles.Highly deserving Las Positas assistant coach Monte Young was selected as State Men's Co-Diving Coach of the Year.
