Las Positas Athletics Roundup 2-22-2016

Let's hope that Las Positas coach Jason Craighead had the old school swimming records written down in pencil entering the season, because so many marks are being erased by the Hawks.
The host Hawks broke six individual school records and a relay mark at the 20-school Hawk Invite last week, topped by freshman Washington High graduate Matt Lee's three LPC records.
The Hawk Invite, a premier meet in Northern California, drew top teams from Southern, Central, and Northern California.
Las Positas freshmen Paris Sinclair and RJ Scott, both Amador Valley graduates, were individual Mid-distance champions (highest combined individual placings for two events; 200 free/500 free), and Claire Piazza (Livermore) was a Butterfly champion (combined 100 fly/200 fly).
Emil Graverson (Mission San Jose) was the Backstroke champion (100 back/200 back). Katie Kulp (Granada) was the Individual Medley champion (200 IM/400 IM).
Sinclair bested the 1,650 free LPC mark with a time of 19 minutes, 19.19 seconds, after she broke the 500 free school mark (5:29.11) in the Coast Kickoff Meet at LPC on Feb. 12.
Additionally, Kulp broke the Hawks record in the 100 butterfly (1:03.13) at the Hawk Invite.
Lee broke school records in the 50 back (24.30); 50 fly (24.33); 100 fly (52.18). Lee also teamed with Scott, Anthony Jhong (Amador Valley and Graverson to eclipse the LPC mark in the 400 medley relay (3:34.03).
Scott broke the LPC individual record in the 500 free (4:43.28).

Men's basketball

Kameron Johnson, a 6-foot-2 freshman out of Granada High, can do pretty much everything effectively on the court: rebound, score, dribble, pass and defend.
He showed all of his attributes, and some serious competitive fire, in the Hawks' 74-73 loss to state No. 2 ranked City College of San Francisco on Feb. 17. Johnson had a team-high 18 points to go with six rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block. His 3-pointer and another basket off a rebound kept the outcome in the balance late.

The Hawks (18-9, 8-4 Coast-North) will compete in the Northern regional playoffs this week.
Las Positas first-year coach James Giacomazzi appreciates Johnson's many skills and his approach.
"I love Kameron," Giacomazzi said. "He's a competitor. Plays his butt off. He's always guarding the other teams' best players. You're asking him to score, defend, rebound, handle the ball, so we're asking a lot of him, but that's because he's that capable. He's a really, really, really good basketball player and he's only going to get better. I think he's got an opportunity to play Division I basketball."
The Hawks went on to beat Skyline in San Bruno 76-72 to complete the regular season in third place. Johnson had 11 points and five assists. Brandon Eboigbodin led the Hawks with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Keith Hunter added 15 points.
Versatility has always been Johnson's game.
"I like that kind of role," Johnson said. "I had the same thing in high school and in all my life, so it's pretty much the same thing to me. It's 'get it done' and compete."
Johnson agreed that the Hawks are trying to put the program on the map.
"Yeah, definitely," he said. "This is our first year with a new coach. We have a lot of sophomores who really work hard, and all of us freshmen are all new and a lot of people from out of the area, so we really just came together."

Women's basketball

The Hawks (13-15, 2-10) finished the season with losses against City College of San Francisco 78-32 and Skyline 88-72.
Sophomore guard Kristjan Aubry made her final Hawks' game memorable with a game-high 27 points, going 7 for 10 from 3-point range. Jasmine Odell had nine rebounds, and Sarah Rodriguez and Erika Duarte each had eight boards.
