Host Las Positas had much to celebrate at the Coast Conference Swimming & Diving Championship on Saturday.

The Hawks men's and women's teams both clinched repeat championships, and coach Jason Craighead was bombarded with silly string, received the ice bucket treatment, and was thrown into the pool.

"Our swimmers finished the meet every bit as strong as we started," Craighead said of the three-day event. "It was great to not only see great races and placings, but huge time improvements as well!"

The LPC men had a whopping 924 points, and the women had 805. The Hawks basically lapped the field.

"Everyone on the team had personal bests in all their races!" Craighead said. "The final scores were also impressive. In my six years, this is the highest women’s total by far. I haven’t seen a total in above 650. For the men, this is the highest point total in conference history (last year we had 811)."

Team records were set on Saturday by Anthony Jhong (200 breast, 2:10.40); Emil Graversen (200 back, 1:55.53) and the men's 400 free relay (3:08.21)

RJ Scott was named Co-Swimmer of the meet, winning the 500 free (4:40.48), 200 free (1:41.66), and 100 back (51.54).

In women's action, Paris Sinclair set two team marks in one race. During the 1,650 free, which she completed in 18:25.56, she also set the LPC 1,000 free mark by going out in 11:14.74.

Katie Kulp also set the team mark in the 200 fly (2:14.08).

Break out the silly string!

"Everyone is really excited," said Craighead, who expects to take his largest contingent to the state meet on May 5-7 at East Los Angeles College.
