Bio

Coach Ravi Bhambhra enters his 13th season of collegiate coaching, and he enters his second season at Las Positas College after helping guide the Hawks to a 26–5 record, an Elite Eight berth, and the #1 overall state ranking over the final five weeks of the season in 2024-25. The Hawks opened the year with a scorching 20-game winning streak, handing eventual state champion City College of San Francisco its only loss of the season to take over the #1 ranking. In the 3C2A State Playoffs, the Hawks knocked off Columbia and Modesto, earning their way into the Elite 8. Coach Giacomazzi was honored with the Northern California Coach of the Year award.

Before LPC, Bhambhra spent three seasons as the Head Coach at College of Alameda. Named one of the 50 Most Impactful Men’s JUCO Coaches in 2020, Bhambhra brought stability to a program he inherited with only four players and just four days to fill out the roster. Under his leadership, Alameda posted its 4th and 5th highest win totals since 2008, and graduated 100% of his two-year players. Under “Coach Ruv,” Alameda produced its first NCAA Division II signee, Petar Mijatovic, and matched the number of scholarship athletes from the previous six seasons combined.

Prior to Alameda, Bhambhra served as the lone assistant at Northern Oklahoma College–Tonkawa (NJCAA DI) for two seasons under Donnie Jackson, helping guide the Mavericks to a 52–6 record, a Region 2 Title, consecutive NJCAA DI national tournament appearances, and consecutive #7 national rankings. The Mavericks were the #2 overall seed in the 2021 DI NJCAA National Tournament. NOCTonkawa won it’s first ever National Tournament game, and made it’s deepest national tourney run in school history. Coach Jackson also won Region II Coach of the Year honors with Bhambhra on staff.

Before Oklahoma, Bhambhra was at City College of San Francisco under future Hall-of-Famer Justin Labagh. There, he helped the Rams go 33-1 and capture the 2017–18 CCCAA State Championship, in which he was responsible for the scouting report for the title game. Bhambhra played a key role in recruiting, helping secure two Division I transfers from Cal in the offseason, and Coach Labagh also won Northern California Coach of the Year honors that season. Bhambhra got his start in the 3C2A under another legendary coach, Peter Diepenbrock, at both Palo Alto High School and Cañada College. “Diep” is in the Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame (2014).

Across his college coaching career, Bhambhra has been part of programs that have gone a combined 138–19 (.879), capturing multiple championships and tournament berths. He has helped develop numerous NCAA Division I and professional players, including Terrell Brown (New Mexico State), Eddie Stansberry (Hawaii), and Michael Steadman (Montana), Demaree King (Jacksonville State), JD Ray (Sam Houston State), and Tyrel Morgan (Texas State). A Bay Area native, Bhambhra holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Arizona and an M.A. in Kinesiology (Sport Psychology) from San José State University. Known for his passion for player development and culture-building, he continues to impact programs on and off the court.
