Hawks Take Their Marks
The season kicked off for the Hawks men's and women's swim and dive squads this past Friday in a tri-meet with American River and Mt. San Antonio held at The Nest.
The meet, which takes place just days after the official start date for when meets are allowed to take place and just two weeks into the practice window, is used as a starting gauge for the swimmers to see where they currently are in terms of their fitness and times.
For the Hawks, the big winner was Filuka Houborg a freshman out of Dougherty Valley high school. Houborg won in the 200 free, 100 fly and 500 free.
Back in the pool after taking a year off was sophomore Samantha Fehr who came out with a win in the 100 breast, an event she placed 3rd in the State two years ago. She also came away with a second-place finish in the 200 IM.
There were two Hawks that came away with 2nd place finishes in the water. First in the 100 IM it was freshman and Granada High alum Saveta Holunga. Then in the 200 IM it was Logan Borrelli, also back after a year away from the pool.
Out on the diving boards it was a one two finish in the women's 1M competition. Taking home first place with a score of 245.25 was sophomore and New Mexico commit Ainsley Wade. Wade is the defending Nor-Cal and Coast Conference champion in both the 1M and 3M. In second place with a score of 207.65 was Laina Stifer, a freshman out of Granada High.
In the 3M event, the duo of Wade and Stifter finished 2nd and 3rd to the American River diver Ashley Johnson, who finished 3rd in the 1M event.
The Hawks took part in Santa Rosa's Nor-Cal Relays a day later before taking this week off to prepare for the El Camino Triple Distance meet on February 13. Then on the 20th they will participate in the Coast Conference Kick-Off meet in Cupertino before returning the following week for the De Anza Invite on the 27th.
