Strong Showing at the Pool

It was a successful showing for the Hawks swim and dive squad this past weekend at the Bob Miyashiro Invite hosted by Santa Rosa Junior College. At the conclusion the three day, 13 team event, it was a 5th place finish for the men, and a second place finish for the women who were just 29 points behind the first-place finishers from De Anza College.

Winning individual events for the Hawks were Filuka Houborg, Samantha Fehr, Laina Stifter, Logan Borrelli and Nathanael Ridosko.

Houborg lead the way winning 3 individual first place finishes to go along with two relay wins in the 200 and 400 medley, swimming lead off in both. In the 500 free she finished with a season best time of 5:10.25. After that she came away with two personal bests in the 400 IM (4:43.48) and the 1650 free (17:44.43) finishing a full minute ahead of the second-place finisher. In the 200 and 400 relay her splits of 28.55 and 1:01.24 were also personal bests.

Fehr dominated the breast stroke competition, coming away with wins in both the 100 (1:04.67) and 200 (2:20.89), it was a personal best time for her in the 200. She was the second leg (breast) of the two winning relay teams, with splits of 28.90 and 1:03.96.

It was a very successful day out on the boards for Stifter who came away with a 1st and 2nd place finish.  In the 1M board she scored 221.25 points in her six dives, good for 2nd.  She then closed out her meet by winning the 3M by over 50 points with a score of 230.05.

Joining Houborg and Fehr in the 200 and 400 relays were Saveta Holunga and Jayden Helm. Holunga swam the butterfly (3rd leg) finishing with splits of 27.20 and 1:01.67. Helm swimming anchor had splits of 26.68 and 58.19. She also had a 6th pace finish in the 1M board competition.

Ridosko won two events, the 200 Free (1:41.86) and the 500 Free (4:36.01) both personal bests. He also anchored the 400 Medley relay team to a 3rd place finish.

It was a victory in the 200 fly with a personal best time of 1:55.97 for Borrelli. He actually finished with 3 personal best times to go along with 2 season best times.  He swam the fly leg of the 400 Medley and had a 51.45 split.

Larwrence Thomas came away with a second-place finish in the 100 IM with a personal best time of 52.97. His breast split in the 400 Medley relay was a 59.67.

Derek Nguy swam lead off for the relay squad, finishing with a personal best split time of 26.76 in the back stroke.

The men had 44 personal best swims, with 6 season bests, while the women had 29 personal bests swims and 12 season bests.

The group will be back in the pool this Friday and Saturday, as they will host The Hawk Invite. The two-day event will start at 10 am both days, with the diving events taking place on day one.
