#5 Beats #6

By Matt Schwab

In one of the state's premier matchups of the nonconference season, No. 5-ranked Las Positas defeated host No. 6 West Valley-Saratoga 65-62 on Friday, Dec. 12.

Sophomore wing Jaden Woodard paced the Hawks (11-0) with a team-high 18 points, going 10 for 12 on free throws.

Kodey Weary, another sophomore wing, had a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds in the intense battle.

Freshman wing Ted Bigg-Wither added 13 points (6-8 FG) and five boards.

"The kids were prepared and executed very well for the most part," Las Positas head coach James Giacomazzi said. "Woodard started us off great with his aggressive play and attacking the basket.
"Ted and Kodey were physical down low on both ends and were terrific. Our primary ball handlers took care of the ball and made the right reads. A great ballgame!" the coach added.

The Hawks amassed 31 defensive rebounds including 14 by Weary. Khristian Holmes stepped up with eight points off the bench.

Las Positas will look to stay undefeated at home against Reedley (8-4) at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
