Las Positas College sophomore Saul Gutierrez recorded his third hat trick of the season, scoring three times in a 6-1 Hawks win at Merritt College on Monday.
The non-conference victory improved the No. 16 state-ranked Hawks to 9-3-2.
Gutierrez ended a four-game scoring drought with his outburst. His goal in the 10th minute gave LPC an early lead. Gutierrez scored two more times in the first half to put Las Positas ahead 4-0. His 14 goals this season currently rank second in the state.
Griffin Lafleur and Basel Abumailish had first-half goals and Tyler Martinez closed out the Hawks scoring in the second. Miguel Cortez played all 90 minutes in goal for the Hawks, allowing just one goal.
Las Positas returns to Coast Conference action on Tuesday (Oct. 19) when the Hawks host Chabot College at 4 p.m.
