Hawk Invite A Splashing Success

by Matt Schwab

Las Positas College swimmers switched things up a bit in the Hawk Invite March 27-28, after a spectacular meet in Santa Rosa.

The Hawks continued the good flow with even more strong swims at their signature home event as they prepare for the Coast Conference Championships on Aug. 16-18 at De Anza College.

The Hawk Invite was an impressive swimming spectacle.

"This is the largest swim & dive invitational in the state with 22 teams in attendance, all from Northern California," LPC head coach Jason Craighead said.

Here are highlights for the Hawks:

Filiuka Houborg was first in the women's 400 Individual Medley (4:49.47). Logan Borrelli was first in the men's 400IM (4:12.34).

In an impressive show of depth, the Hawks prevailed in the women's 200 and 400 medley relays. The 200 relay members were Ashley May, Samantha Fehr, Saveta Holunga, and Houborg. In the 400 Medley Relay, team members were May, Fehr, Holunga, and Jayden Helm.

Impressively, Holunga and Fehr were one-two in the 50 fly and 100 IM.

Larwence Thomas took second in the men's 50 Fly (23.81).

Caroline Guidi was second in the 200 Fly with a season best of 2:28.42.

Laina Stifter was second in 1M and 3M diving.

Fehr and Hannah Rasmussen went 1-2 in the 50 breast.

Fehr was first in the 200 Breast.

The team will head to Sacramento this weekend for the ARC Sprint Meet, before hosting the Nor-Cal Regional Diving Qualifier on April 11th. Results from this meet will also determine the Coast Conference Diving Championships and the points earned will be added to the team finals after the completion of the swimming events.
