Second-half surge keys Hawks' victory over Hartnell
Brianna Gay scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as LPC stormed back from a 5-point halftime deficit to defeat Hartnell 68-52 Tuesday night in Salinas.
The nonconference victory improved LPC's record to 5-1 and also increased its winning streak to 3 games. The Hawks are 2-0 on the road so far this season.
Trailing 27-22 at halftime, LPC outscored the Panthers 46-25 in the second half. For the game, the Hawks shot 35 percent from the floor, but they made 24 of 32 free throws (75 percent).
Cayla Nava backed Gay's 17 points with 15 of her own. Kristjan Aubrey and Sarah Rodriguez both scored 11 points for the Hawks. Erika Duarte contributed 10 rebounds.
LPC has over a week off before its next game, a 4 p.m. matchup with Allan Hancock in the first round of the Phillips 66 Invitational at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. Hancock is 4-1 and has also won 3 straight games.
