Hawks beat Modesto in OT

Going overtime for the second time in three games didn't faze the Hawks on Monday night.

LPC is now 2-0 in overtime games after traveling to Modesto and defeating the Pirates 71-66 in a nonconference affair.

Cayla Nava led all scorers with 27 points for the Hawks, who trailed 33-28 at halftime. Nava connected on 6 of 11 three-point attempts.

Jasmine Odell had another fine all-around game with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Brianna Gay finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting and adding 10 rebounds. Erika Duarte chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds, while Sarah Rodriguez had 9 points before fouling out.

The Hawks won their 10th game against only three losses and matched their season-high three-game winning streak. Modesto, which fell to 3-8, failed in its attempt to avenge a 68-57 defeat at LPC on Nov. 14.

LPC has a week off before starting play in the Foothill Holiday Classic in Los Altos. It will take on Contra Costa (9-6), which is ranked #11 in Northern California, at 5 p.m. Dec. 28.

In the LPC-Contra Costa half of the bracket, Ohlone plays Sierra in another first-round tame at 1 p.m. In the bottom half of the bracket, Irvine Valley takes on Los Medanos at 3 p.m., and LA Trade Tech faces host Foothill at 7 p.m.

The tournament continues through Dec. 30.
