Nava scores 36, Hawks win in double OT
If next week's Coast Conference North Division opener is anything like Tuesday's consolation game in the Foothill Holiday Classic, it's sure to turn into...well, a classic.
Cayla Nava made 10 three-pointers and scored a season-high 36 points as LPC defeated Ohlone -- its first conference opponent Jan. 6 -- 98-88 in double overtime in Los Altos Hills.
LPC will take on L.A. Trade Tech at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the consolation finals. With a victory, LPC can win its third consecutive tournament consolation title.
The Hawks (11-4) have won all 3 of their games that have gone overtime, with the victory over Ohlone being the first that has gone 2 overtimes. The Renegades, who entered the game winless on the season at 0-9, trailed by only 2 points at halftime and entered the first extra period tied 69-69.
The first overtime ended at 81-81 before LPC outscored Ohlone 18-7 to win the game.
Nava finished 10 of 19 from three-point range, added 1 two-point bucket, and made all 4 of her free throw attempts to surpass her season high of 33 points set Dec. 4 against L.A. Pierce. She currently leads the state in threes made per game (5.0) and threes attempted per game (12.5).
Jasmine Odell scored 22 points and added 7 rebounds against Ohlone. Brianna Gay had 10 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out, and Chelsea Bantley came off the bench to score 10 points. Additionally, Kristjan Aubry recorded 9 assists to go along with 7 rebounds.
