Strong Start Tough Finish

Finally getting a chance to start their season after a having an earlier scheduled match cancelled last week, the women's water polo team drop their home opener to the Pirates of Modesto College 17-9 this past Wednesday at The Nest.

The match was much closer than what the final scored showed. The Hawks actually got of to a quick start, scoring the first three goals of the match.

Leading 6-2 early in the second, Las Positas was on the wrong end of an 8-0 run as the two teams headed into halftime.

That run was answered by Las Positas to start the 3rd, when freshman Camryn Hobizal's (Foothill High) goal capped a 2-0 run which brought the score to 2 goal deficit at 10-8.

Unfortunately, that was as close as they would get. Modesto taking advantage of a tired Hawks squad, extended their lead and ended any hopes of a comeback by going on a 5-0 run to finish the match.

Three Hawks playing in their first match at The Nest were responsible for all of scoring, with Hannah Rasmussen (Livermore High) leading the way with 4 goals and 1 assist. Joining her in the stat sheets were Hobizal 3 goals and Jayden Helm (Livermore High) who had 2 goals and 1 assist.

Sophomore Casey Reil (Livermore High) started in goal, saving 10 before giving way to freshman Alicia Frost (San Ramon Valley) who had 2 saves in her stint in the net in the 4th period.

The Hawks will begin a two-week road trip starting this weekend playing in the two-day West Valley Invitational over in Saratoga, the Bochman Memorial Tournament in Aptos the following weekend before coming back to The Nest to host West Valley and start conference play on September 24th.
