Hawks open Giacomazzi era with blowout win

LPC's first game under new coach James Giacomazzi was a rousing success Monday night.

The Hawks ran all over the visiting Simpson College JV team to the tune of a 95-49 victory. McKayle Harnell scored 15 points, and Keith Hunter added 13 to lead the way for LPC.

Kameron Johnson and Cameron Moses also had solid games. Johnson scored 10 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Moses contributed 10 points and 6 assists.

As a team, the Hawks, who led 41-19 at halftime, shot 51% (39 of 76) from the floor, collected 51 rebounds (15 offensive), and had 21 assists and 18 steals. They also committed 17 turnovers.

The 46-point victory marked the largest margin of victory in the 10-year history of the program. The previous margin was 34 points in beating Contra Costa 73-39 in 2010.

Monday's result also marked the largest season-opening victory since LPC defeated Marin 82-55 in the Hawks' very first game in 2006.

Next up is the Tony Costello Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 5-7. LPC takes on Mendocino in a first-round game at 5 p.m. Click for a tourney preview.
